Despite a long stretch of freezing daytime and overnight temperatures in early spring, City of Toronto crews got to work getting parks spring-ready as early as possible. Maintenance work on more than 1,000 water assets including washrooms and drinking fountains in City parks began in early April. This work includes cleaning, repairs and replacements that can take from a few days to weeks to complete.

Over the next month, the City will get to work opening hundreds of standalone drinking water fountains, bottle-filling stations and dog bowls in parks as well as splash and spray pads.

Throughout the month of June, City crews will continue their work to open other water assets such as outdoor pools, wading pools and ornamental fountains.

Key opening dates:

โ€ข Friday, May 2: Opening of most seasonal park washrooms and attached water fountains.
โ€ข Saturday, May 17: More than 140 splash and spray pads are expected to open for the season โ€ข Saturday, May 24: All remaining standalone water fountains, bottle filling stations and dog fountains in City parks open, unless more extensive repairs are required. All fountains are tested to ensure the water is safe to drink when they are activated.
โ€ข Saturday, May 31: Lifeguard supervision at 10 beaches begins (10:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.).
โ€ข Saturday, June 14: Early opening of 15 outdoor pools on evening and weekend schedules.
โ€ข Saturday, June 21: Remaining 49 outdoor pools open on an evening and weekend partial schedule.
โ€ข Friday, June 27: All outdoor pools and wading pools open on a full schedule.

โ€œWe want people to enjoy the many amazing city parks for as long as possible when the weather outdoors is lovely. This means getting all the seasonal park washrooms and other water facilities ready right on time. Iโ€™m pleased that with our budget commitment City crews have been able to get them ready on schedule again this year. Weโ€™re continuing to invest more resources so everyone can get the best of our beautiful city.โ€
